Equitots Lanarkshire CIC became a British Horse Society (BHS) Approved Centre in November 2018.
This means we have been assessed by the British Horse Society to ensure you are receiving the highest standards of excellence.
BHS Approved means that we are regularly inspected to ensure we meet high standards of safety, horse welfare and tuition. Please take a look at the BHS Approved Centres page to see how we scored, we achieved Highly Commended for Horse Welfare which we are extremely proud about. We use three levels of grading: Approved (A), Commended (C) and Highly Commended (HC).
Equines have been a huge part of my life for almost 40 years and I understand how they read and respond to non verbal messages. Their response can provide children with visual familiarity to how other relationships and dynamics in their lives could happen. They have the chance to work through issues in a safe and non judgemental environment. Where the response they receive is not the one they expect or want they have the opportunity to change their own actions to have the equine respond differently with immediate feedback. They can see for themselves real change within the moment. Children and young people are therefore given the opportunity to explore to be themselves and build relationships on an equal footing
I want to be able to share my knowledge and experience of communicating with equines and using the outdoor environment to improve learning, health and wellbeing of children across Lanarkshire by providing a service which will allow them to improve:
- Social and emotional skillls
- Ability to self correct and regulate
- Self Advocacy
- Open a pathway to learning
MEET THE PONIES
The ponies here at Equitots Lanarkshire CIC are part of our family and very much part of the Equitots Tribe. Chico and Mac have unique personalities that help our learners begin to understand social interaction and appropriate responses. Please take the time to read through their biographies as they are much loved and valued members of our team! Equine Welfare is of paramount importance here at Equitots Lanarkshire CIC and we aim to keep our ponies healthy happy pony partners for our visitors.
Cheeky Chico is a 12hh 15 year old Welsh cross bay gelding. He has been part of our family since the Summer of 2007. He started off as my son Rory’s riding pony and then moved on to become my carriage driving pony participating in numerous Pleasure Driving classes and taking 1st Prize one year at the Royal Highland Show. He still enjoys driving and helps Santa at our Santa Grotto events by bringing him to the Grotto on his cart!
Mac is a 14.1hh 18 year old Connemara cross flea bitten grey gelding who has lived with us since December 2017. Prior to life as a therapy pony at Equitots Lanarkshire CIC Mac taught two little girls all they needed to know about ponies, looking after them and of course winning them lots of rosettes. He competed in dressage, show jumping, cross country and pony club games when he was the apple of their eye but is now enjoying a much quieter life.
